WHY CHOOSE ME AS A COUNSELLOR

I am an experienced Doncaster based Bereavement, Grief and Loss Counsellor. I specialise in Bereavement Counselling in Doncaster, but clients looking for a Bereavement and Grief Counsellor often contact me from Barnsley, Mexborough and Wakefield as all are within easy travelling distance to my office.

My name is Steve Keegan and I have been a practicing, qualified Relationship Counsellor since 2009. As a young adult I had suffered far too many close family bereavements and as a young male, I found it especially difficult to talk about my grief which I realised at the time was not helpful to me. My grief impacted on my own wellbeing, my relationships and my friendships. In 2009 I had already qualified as a Relationship Counsellor and Couples Counsellor and was hoping to return to study to complete a Post Graduate Diploma in Relationship and Psychosexual Therapy. As I had already embarked on a Counselling Career I knew that I had to gain a qualification in Bereavement support to enable me to hopefully help others work through their grief, rather than having to find ways and means of coping on their own. Grief affects people in so many ways and is something that many of us find very difficult to discuss with family as they too are often grieving. It can also be difficult to discuss our grief with friends as we worry about burdening them with our troubles and putting them in an awkward position and them not knowing what to do or say. I looked into courses and Cruse were the leading Bereavement Support Organisation and still are I believe. This is why I chose to complete the Cruse Course which took four months to complete and pass. I now work as a Counsellor and I am committed to providing counselling and therapy in a safe, confidential and non-judgmental environment working from my home based office in Doncaster.

I can also appreciate how the effects of a bereavement or loss can impact on a couple relationship having worked with many couples over the years where this has been the case. Please give me a call to discuss such a situation and we can explore how relationship counselling can be of benefit to you.

Please feel free to contact me via email or ring me for a quick chat about your problems. I appreciate that it can be difficult to contact a Counsellor and that people are often nervous. I believe that a quick conversation can often help someone break the ice and feel less anxious about meeting the Counsellor for the first appointment.

I am now able to accept payment by debit/credit card as well as by cash or BACS.

WHAT IS GRIEF?

Grief is the word used to describe the feelings and reactions that we have when we lose someone that we care about or something that we value. Grief affects everyone and it is a universal reaction to loss. It is painful and stressful, but is also natural, normal and necessary.

We all grieve in our own way and in our own time. For some people this might mean crying while others may express their grief in other ways. For some people, grieving may last from months to years, while others may recover from their loss more quickly. Reactions and feelings can change from hour to hour and day to day. These feelings or mood swings will often be very frightening for the bereaved and impact on their relationships with other loved ones, friends and colleagues.

The way in which a person died may also have an impact on the grieving process. Was the death from natural causes, an accident or suicide? Was the death sudden or unexpected? Could the death have been prevented if circumstances had been different?

WHAT IS LOSS?

A loss may not involve a bereavement at all. I have worked with people that have contacted me about various losses in their life that they have found traumatic or very difficult to deal with and adjust to. These losses have included:

Loss of a child/children living at home and moving to University or their first home
Loss of a partner when a relationship has broken down.
Loss of self worth after being made redundant
Loss of self worth and identity having worked in a professional all through life and then having retired
Loss of the relationship as it was due to illness or disability and having to potentially take on a carer role that has changed the dynamics of the relationship.

My practice is in, Cusworth, Doncaster, but is within easy reach of Wakefield, Barnsley and Rotherham.
